How to extend your stay in Canada
Canada has been luring the largest tech companies in the world as well as the world’s best tech talent at an unprecedented rate!According to a recent report from the Information and Communication Technology Council, job growth in Ontario’s digital economy “surged” during the pandemic despite widespread layoffs and other negative effects on the economy. Canada’s rapidly expanding clean tech, health and biotech, advanced manufacturing, agri-food, and food tech, and interactive digital media sectors have been identified as “key innovation areas” that will outperform the rest of the non-digital economy in the next five years due to their adoption of digital technology and will each see their workforces increase by thousands of positions by 2025.

1 – Toronto, ON:
Unsurprisingly, Toronto came in first on the list with 250,000 tech workers. It has an 8.3 basis points tech density and received an A+ for the quality of its workforce. The city saw a 36.5 percent increase in technical talent growth between 2014 and 2019.
2 – Ottawa, ON:
When compared to other cities, Ottawa stands out for having a high density of tech jobs. Nearly 10% of Ottawa’s workforce is employed in the technology industry. The capital has 76,200 tech workers in total, which is among the highest in North America. Not bad for a town with a government.
3 – Vancouver, BC:
Only 84,900 tech professionals work in Vancouver, but that number is rising quickly. The entry and growth of very well tech companies like Amazon and Shopify fuels a tech market that has experienced a 50% growth in tech jobs over the past five years and received an A+ for the quality of its tech talent.
4- Kitchener-Waterloo, ON:
The Waterloo region has 22,400 tech workers, high labor quality, and over 50% growth in tech jobs in the last five years.
5 – Montreal, QC:
fifth-place Montreal completes the list. With 141,600 total employees, it has the second-highest proportion of tech jobs in the country, but from 2014 to 2019, the city’s tech skills grew by just 19.3%.
6 – Calgary, AB:
Despite having nearly 45,000 employees in the tech industry and receiving an A for its quality of tech labor, Calgary has seen a decline in overall tech talent of almost 7% over the past five years.
7 – Victoria, BC:
The smallest city on the list, Victoria, has about 10,500 tech workers and has seen a growth of 15.7% over the past five years, growth that was probably aided in part by the high cost of living and lack of office space in Metro Vancouver.
8 – Halifax, NS:
Halifax does have an A- ranking for labor quality and just over 13,000 people in its tech talent pool. At Dalhousie University in Halifax, more than a thousand tech degrees are regularly completed each year.
9 – Quebec City, QC:
The total number of tech talent in Quebec City, which received a B+ for labor quality, is just over 35,000. There, the tech sector employs just under 7% of all workers, and the city has seen a growth of 27.4% over the past five years.
10 – Hamilton, ON:
Hamilton, a city of modest size but steady growth, saw a nearly 35.7% increase in talent all in all although it still has fewer than 20,000 tech workers.
